Following the unexpected collapse of a historic plaster ceiling at Boscobel House and Gardens in 2024, Frisenda Architects was engaged as part of the ongoing effort to stabilize, restore, and reimagine this nationally significant Federal-era house. What began as an emergency intervention quickly expanded into a comprehensive, house-wide restoration—requiring the careful removal and reconstruction of the majority of the building’s ceilings and infrastructure.
Our work contributed to a meticulous, room-by-room process that balances structural integrity with historic fidelity, while also creating opportunities to rethink how the house is experienced for future generations. The project operates at the intersection of preservation, construction, and curatorial strategy—treating the restoration not only as a recovery effort, but as a catalyst for the continued evolution of one of the Hudson Valley’s most important cultural landmarks.
