The Brooklyn Heights Apartment renovation is a carefully considered reimagining of a pre-war residential interior in one of New York City’s most storied neighborhoods. Completed in 2024 by Frisenda Architects in collaboration with Studio LGB, this project enhances a classic Brooklyn Heights apartment with a layered approach to materiality, spatial refinement, and contemporary lifestyle demands. Located just steps from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, the original apartment offered generous proportions, tall ceilings, and pre-war architectural details that speak to its urban heritage. Rather than erase these historic characteristics, the design strategy intentionally celebrates and reinforces them — preserving original moldings, wood floors, and wall paneling while integrating modern design elements that both clarify and enrich the living experience.
The renovation responds to the client’s desire for a home that accommodates art, entertaining, and everyday living with equal grace. Strategic interventions — including an updated kitchen, refined circulation paths, and custom millwork — create a cohesive interplay of old and new. Throughout the space, thoughtful choices of materials, finishes, and color capture a balance between heritage and contemporary expression, enhancing both comfort and visual resonance.
Frisenda Architects’ work on the Brooklyn Heights Apartment underscores a commitment to contextual design that honors the building’s history while tailoring the interior to the client’s evolving needs. The result is a residence that feels at once rooted in its New York setting and distinctly refined in its architectural language.
